Quero Ser Santo: Live At Palacio de Deportes, Mardrid Spain, 3rd July 1992

By 1992, Nirvana had become reluctant global superstars. Their second album Nevermind had knocked Michael Jackson off the top of the charts, and grunge was sending plaid shirt sales through the roof. Most importantly, the band were in blistering form during this period, despite internal tensions and constant speculation surrounding Kurt Cobain's personal life and health. This performance, recorded in Madrid, captures them in ferocious form, with a setlist that goes well beyond the obvious hits. Alongside instant 90s classics like 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' and 'Come As You Are' sit a number of curveballs. Covers of songs by The Vaselines and Fang, deeper cuts such as 'Aneurysm' and 'Stain', and tracks from their debut album Bleach all make an appearance. The band also hint at what's to come with a run-through of 'Pennyroyal Tea', which was unreleased at the time but would later feature on In Utero and become one of their final singles. This recording captures the raw energy of the band at a crucial moment. A few months later, they would deliver their legendary set at Reading Festival, but you can already hear the fuse burning here.
