Spring 1963.
After consecutive hits like "From Me to You" and "She Loves You," The Beatles' second album was a test of their true worth.
Recorded over seven days, between July and October 1963, in between live shows,
the album was released as a masterpiece, deliberately omitting any singles.
Firstly, alternate mixes and versions of every track on the album are included in the original order,
including the rare 1963 original stereo mix, which captures the atmosphere of the time, "All My Loving" with its hi-hat intro, which was only available on the German release, and "Don't Bother Me," where George shouts "Rock and roll, now!" just before the end.
It also includes related songs recorded around the same time, such as "Dakishimetai," "She Loves You," "This Boy," "From Me to You," and "Thank You Girl.
" The "Making of" audio, which lets you hear the re-recording process, is particularly impressive.
This is an early take of the memorable intro chorus phrase from "From Me To You," still played on guitar.
Enjoy the freshness of "Thank You Girl," performed by just the four of them without any dubbing. "I Want to Hold You" begins with Paul immediately replying "No" to John's question, "Is it too late?" And "Hold Me Tight" is a track that, after multiple takes, ends with the engineer angrily shouting out the number of takes. Listen to these immersive recordings, as if you were right there at the Beatles' recording studio.
The last two tracks, treated as bonus tracks due to their poor sound quality, are also valuable. The final version of "Please Mister Postman" begins with a sharp hi-hat stab followed by the startling intro, "Wait! Oh, Yeah. Wait for the postman!" However, here you can hear an arrangement with a more mediocre intro, which, paradoxically, highlights the brilliance of the finished version, making for an intriguing take. This collection of valuable recordings serves as a guide to learning more about this masterpiece.
