These tracks, culled from two sessions with John Peel and the TV show Something Else, find Joy Division in a live setting and give some insight into what a raw band they really were. Stripped of studio smoothness, these performances possess a distinct aggression that was largely controlled on their albums. Bernard Sumner's guitar on 'She's Lost Control' is positively ferocious, giving the song a feral edge that isn't present on the studio version. 'Transmission' is equally frantic, although propelled by that familiar bass line, the drums are far busier and the guitars create a squall of noise for a incandescent sounding Curtis to vent over.
