Originally called the New Yardbirds, the group found its true identity when Robert Plant - an unknown talent recommended by producer Mickey Most - joined forces with Jimmy Page. Soon after, John Bonham, a childhood friend of Page, was brought into the fold. The final addition to their lineup was John Paul Jones, who had already built a formidable reputation as a session musician, frequently collaborating with Page throughout the 1960s. His addition to the group marked the final piece of the puzzle, and following a name change, Led Zeppelin was born.

The band’s self-titled debut album arrived on January 13, 1969 in the U.S., released during their first North American tour. Within their first year, Zeppelin completed an impressive four U.S. and four U.K. tours, all while recording and releasing their second album, Led Zeppelin II. The album was a breakthrough, capturing the raw energy of their live shows and going on to outpace their debut in terms of commercial success.

Despite their non-stop touring and recording schedule, Led Zeppelin found time to showcase their live prowess on British radio. Their first ever performances had taken place in Scandinavia in September 1968. Six months later - with their star still on the rise - they returned, playing electrifying shows in Sweden and Denmark, both of which are represented here. Four years on, they were firmly established as the biggest live draw on the planet, and were rapturously received by a 50,000-strong crowd in San Francisco’s vast Kezar Stadium. The performances are presented here across four CDs, together with full colour booklet containing many images and informative liner notes.

Tracks:

Disc 1

Konserthuset, Stockholm, Sweden March 14th 1969 Sveriges radio

1. Its success was immediate, propelled by a rich mix of hard-hitting rock, intricate acoustic passages and genre-defying experimentation. Tracks such as "Kashmir", "Trampled Under Foot" and "In My Time of Dying" demonstrated their virtuosity, while the album’s layered production and sheer scale captured the imagination of fans worldwide, cementing its place as one of the defining albums of the decade.

To support Physical Graffiti, Led Zeppelin embarked on a 37-date North American tour, divided into two legs. Performances ran from 18 January through 27 March 1975, preceded by two European warm-up shows in Rotterdam and Brussels. The tour was characterised by extended improvisations, fiery renditions of fan favourites and the kind of electrifying stage presence that only Led Zeppelin could deliver, further solidifying their status as the ultimate live act of the era.

On 10 March 1975, Led Zeppelin took the stage at the San Diego Sports Arena for a show that would go down as the finest of the tour.
